what to wear for family photos

I get asked this questions all the time form clients who are booking family photos; “what should we wear?” It is a tough questions, and such a stressful part of having the photos taken especially since you will plans on having these  photos that will be all over your home, hanging on the walls, and memories for a life time. So I thought I would put together some samples of recently families who nailed it in the outfit department. I have a mix of summery, wintery, dressy, and casual.

I typically give my clients two major pieces of advice: 1. make sure you are comfortable in your attire, you want to feel and look like you! 2. you want to make sure your family matches without looking too matchy matchy. The days of jeans and white tees are no longer, we can get a little more creative and have fun with our outfits while still looking unison.

For Fall photos i usually recommend jewel tones with a mix of neutrals. Burgundy, navy, emerald with grays, creams, and gold are always a great look! For Spring or Summer photos I love mint + coral together. As well as more neutrals and soft colors such as blue hues. Take a look at some of my favorite outfits from my amazing clients….

Arizona Maternity Photography

I LOVE LOVE getting to photography maternity sessions. Although it is not my primary category it is definitely one of my favorites. I love working with a couple who is expecting. They are glowing, happy, and genuinely in love! Here are some of my favorite recent maternity photos I have captured over this past year or so. Props to all you ladies who are pregnant in Arizona in the summer, you make it look unbelievable!

Kevin + Larissa, Desert Engagement!

I was so honored when Larissa approached me to shoot her and Kevin’s engagement photos and even more so when she asked me to be their wedding photographer! I get nervous before every shoot still, but this engagement session was a whole new level of nerves because Larissa too, is a photographer. Talk about pressure! The first thing she said to me was, “I want saguaro cactus + Kevin and I will probably need to be sitting in every photo because he is so much taller than me!” I laughed out load and told her I am sure we would figure something out.

As you can see, Larissa + Kevin both are naturals in front of the camera. We had such a fun time at 5:45am (Kevin was a trooper!) because Larissa new she wanted morning light. Guess the saying should go, the early bird gets the best shots! Hope you enjoy their desert theme engagement photos!

Fall Mini Sessions | Chandler, Az

When I first started out doing photography professionally, it was families who were coming to me asking to have their annual Christmas card photos taken.  I loved getting to know each families, watching their kids grow, finding fun locations for everyone to run around. As the years went by and I got more into Wedding + couple photography I still kept up with family sessions because those relationships meant so much to me! Now, in my 6th year doing photography I have seen families 6 times (thats a lot of different locations to find for them!) the kids run up and give me great big hugs, I chat and catch up with mom and dad…. I feel as though I almost become part of their family for the evening.

Here is one of my favorite locations in Chandler, Arizona! I am offering family photos at this location both in September + November, session are $200, and you will receive 20 digital edited imaged with printing rights!
